The cache is situated next to a small lake on the French side of
the Pyrenees mountains between France and Spain. From the closest
vehicle parking, it's a fairly steep one hour walk up the valley to
the cache along a footpath which is part of the GR10 walking route
that connects the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediteranion Sea.
If you visit the cache early mornings during February and August or
any other time during the year, you will most probably encounter
wild deer during the walk. (The walk is very popular during the
French holiday seasons.) Allow roughly three hours before you will
be back at your car.
Park in the big car park where the road ends at Pont d'Espagne (a
minimal parking fee is charged during the high season). The walk
starts 200m from the carpark at N42°51.043' W000°08.335' (30m from
the rock footbrigde crossing the river just below the cascading
waterfall). A signboard will point you to Lac du Gaube. Follow the
footpath untill you reach the lake.
The cache is reachable both in summer and winter. During winter we
would recommend using snow racquets for the walk, which can be
rented at a little town about 6 km before the car park. Remember to
bring along snowchains for your car in winter which may come in
handy during the last 6 km before the car park.
Please be fairly discrete when looking for the cache around the
lake. During the high season the lake area is a popular picnic
spot.
